Character: Vincent Baskerville
Age: 8 years old
Canon: Pandora Hearts
Canon Point: Before the Tragedy of Sablier, after he met Echo but before he found out about Gil's fate from Alice

Background: Wiki Link

Personality: Young Vincent, in one word, is clingy. He has a really, really, REALLY big brother complex and hates to be separated from his older brother Gilbert. Even though he understood that his brother lived an extremely hard life because of him, Vincent was still extremely happy and grateful when Gilbert chose not to leave him. Because he believes that Gil will do absolutely everything in order to protect him, Vincent in turn will do anything in order to keep Gil safe and happy. He will never intentionally do anything to hurt him, and anyone who does hurt Gil is an instant enemy. It doesn't even have to be physically. Vincent hates seeing Gilbert upset or angry, and will lash out at anyone who makes him so.

And Vincent, while young, can be quite violent when it comes to protecting (or avenging) those he cares about. For instance, after Alice made Gilbert angry by picking on Vincent, Vincent took a pair of scissors and destroyed a lot of her toys. He also blinded both eyes of her cat and, according to the Will of the Abyss, said nothing but awful things to her whenever they met.

Vincent for the most part is a sweet child, but there is a part of him that is extremely scarred and twisted. He was born with one red eye, which marks him as a Child of Ill Omen who brings misfortune wherever he goes. His parents sold him and Gil to a freak show, and after escaping they lived a harsh life on the streets where they were constantly beaten up for his red eye. This merciless treatment has led him to lose his empathy towards anything and anyone besides his brother Gilbert. After killing Alice's cat and tormenting her, Vincent has never shown any remorse towards his actions. In fact, he seems to have even enjoyed them, hinting at the sadistic tendencies that he eventually develops into adulthood.

Years of abuse and abandonment has also made him extremely distrustful of strangers, especially adults who have the power to hurt him and his brother Gilbert. He is constantly scared and wary of the next punch or kick, and hides behind his brother whenever Gil is around.

On the other hand however, show the brothers a little bit of kindness and you're likely to get a blonde fluffball jumping at you every time you come visit. This is Vincent's relationship with their savior, Jack, and their master, Glen. He is almost as protective of them as he is with his brother and will not stand to others speaking ill of them. Since all the adults they had ever met had mistreated them, including their very own parents, Vincent regards kind adults as somewhat special, and it is still possible to win his trust if one is kind at the onset. He can also be very affectionate, and enjoys hugs and being carried around.

Under his master's protection, some of Vincent's natural childishness and stubbornness has begun to show. He refused to call Jack anything but 'master' despite not being his servant, and will run up to hug him despite Gil's protests about it being inappropriate. When happy, Vincent can be really playful and sweet, hinting at the personality he could have had if not for the neglect he has suffered.

With regards to how Vincent sees himself, he has become a lot more comfortable with his red eye ever since Jack cut his hair and told him that he loved its color. However, that doesn't mean that he now considers himself 'normal'. This is shown when Vincent first met Noise and told her that since they are both 'aberrations', then they can be normal in each other's eyes. Vincent has not forgotten that he's a Child of Ill Omen; he's simply grown comfortable with the fact while living with people who understood what he is and treated him no differently.

Abilities: Vincent grows up to be a very capable marksman and Chain Contractor, but at the canon point I'm taking him from, he has no skills yet in either. It has to be noted that he's a very fast learner however-- evidenced by the fact that he surpassed his brother Gilbert's more than one-year training with a gun in only two months. As a Child of Ill Omen, he also has the power to open the Door to the Abyss and come in contact with its Core, but it's an ability he'll unlikely exhibit in the game since the Abyss exists as a different dimension.

Alignment: Piphron. Due to the abuse he received as a Child of Ill Omen, Vincent is extremely distrustful of strangers, especially adults. On the other end of the spectrum is his complete trust on Gilbert however, and Jack, who has treated the two of them well.

Other: I'm applying for kid!Vincent and will likely use his development in the game on top of canon development to affect his future self if I update him to canon age Vincent in the future.

? SAMPLE SECTION ?

General Sample: Short TDM sample

Vincent shrieked in surprise as a scoop of ice cream hit him on the shoulder, soft enough that it didn't hurt, but definitely dark enough to stain his white clothes. Curiously he swiped a finger over the bit that was left on his clothes and brought it to his mouth, grinning widely when he found the taste to his liking. On top of being a good projectile, it was also really delicious!

Gil probably wouldn't approve of him playing with food like this though. Vincent didn't at first, having spent most of his life starving on the streets. He'd looked on in dismay as people grabbed foodstuff and threw them at each other instead of eating them. Another fifteen minutes found him joining the food fight however--there was just so much food around and people looked like they were really having fun!

He wished Gil was here to play with him, but he couldn't imagine the Gilbert from this world to throw food around like this. His brother had grown to be an extremely cool adult, and even though he refused to tell Vincent what would happen in the future, he could already tell that Gilbert grew up to be a VERY important person. He was a proper lord now, and probably a very influential one at that. Gilbert had always been destined for great things, and it pleased Vincent very much to see that his brother had been able to achieve them.

Whether Vincent was still by his side or not at that time...it didn't really matter. It would be nice if that was so, but he couldn't imagine his older brother being so successful with a Child of Ill Omen by his side. That was fine though; Vincent didn't mind. And he thought it was extremely lucky that he got brought to this world, where he could watch the adult Gilbert. Vincent intended to make the most of his time here...but first he needed to survive this food fight.

Grabbing a few donuts to pelt other people with, Vincent made a note to himself to bring some of them home before jumping back into the fray.

Emotion Sample:

"But I didn't start it!" Vincent complained for the seventh time since the food fight was broken up, but the man heading the clean-up just pointed him towards his next task. The kid turned to look, and saw a garbage can that had fallen on its side, some of its contents spilled out onto the ground. Ew. He made a face and turned around again to complain, but the man was gone, off to direct other people that had been caught participating in the food fight.

Making a face as if he could already smell the spilled trash from where he stood, Vincent walked towards the garbage can to clean it up. He shoved the trash back inside forcefully, annoyed that he had to do something like this. Afterwards, the garbage can was so heavy that he sweated a little just to put it back upright.

It was a job well done, with only a few unidentifiable streaks left on the ground. Just as Vincent was about to walk away however, a loud bang! behind him made him jump and turn around. He stared in dismay at the garbage can, which was once again on its side with even more trash spilling out.

"Who did this!?" Vincent demanded loudly, even though there was no one around the garbage can but him. And just as the last word left his mouth, another garbage can toppled over on its own. It was then that Vincent remembered Gilbert's warning that his emotions could affect his surroundings in this world. The kid's face lost a bit of color as he realized that was what just happened, and the very real possibility that he would never finish if he didn't calm down soon.
